Corrie Lynne Player, MEd

Corrie Lynne Player is the author of the book,  Loving Firmness: Successfully Raising Teenagers without Losing Your Mind.

Corrie Lynne Player and her husband are the parents of nine children and grandparents of 23. Their special needs foster home, specializing in attachment disorders, has sheltered more than 40 children over the past 35 years. They have cared for and helped heal children and adolescents suffering from all types of abuse, including sexual. They developed an effective and unique behavioral modification system, The Point System, which was copyrighted in 1996.

A graduate of Stanford University with a masters degree in education, Mrs. Player has made child development and family relations her life’s work. Her published work includes four editions of Anchorage Altogether (a book of essays); an authorized young adult biography about Philo T. Farnsworth, the inventor of television, Dreams Do Come True; parenting books, So Your Teen Knows All the Answers and Raising Teenagers Without Losing Your Mind; dozens of magazine articles, and two ongoing weekly columns on parenting and relationships.

In addition to a freelance writing career that began in 1972 (she has been a contributor to Family Circle, Parents, McCall's, Ladies Home Journal, and Woman's Day), she has taught communication skills to high school and college students and run a successful geological and technical writing consulting firm, Tahoma Companies. Since 1989, she has conducted a part time business in individual and family counseling under the names “I’d Rather Raise an Elephant”, “Heaven Help Us,” and “Raising Kids Without Losing Your Mind.” She is currently a parenting expert for the ClubMom web site.

Mrs. Player has written about, consulted with and helped organize such programs as Tough Love, Adoption Advocates, and Families Anonymous. She has maintained her membership in the National Foster Parent Association for much of the past 20 years and was one of Utah's delegates to the 1991, 1992, and 2002 national conferences. She was president of her local foster parents’ support group, as well as editor of the State newsletter for several years.

Mrs. Player has conducted workshops and been a featured speaker at many seminars and conferences for subjects ranging from solving personnel management problems in small businesses to opening communication channels for troubled relationships. She has appeared on radio and national television talk shows about her work with special needs foster and adopted children. She is a popular motivational speaker for families and has worked throughout the Rocky Mountains, California, Alaska, and the Midwest.
