Near the end of his corporate trainer career, he went back to school to
earn his Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Teaching and
Learning. He works full-time as an Assistant Professor and Program
Director for the Master of Arts in Leadership at Bellevue University.
He and Chandra have been married for over twenty years. They have six
children, three girls and three boys, ranging in ages from two to
eighteen. They have been teaching them at home for over twelve years.
As a young girl, Chandra Byers traveled around the country with her
family before settling down in the Denver area, which is where she ended
up going to college and meeting her future husband. Chandra later decided
to attend a business school where she graduated top in her class as an
administrative assistant; as a result of her training and experience in
this field, she was able to take on a variety of part-time jobs over the
years to help meet the family’s bills as needed.
Chandra reluctantly became a homeschooler when she and
her husband decided to teach their oldest daughter at home during her
kindergarten year. Now, over twelve years later, she is a mother of six
children and plans to teach all of them at home all the way through their
high school years.
She is an active volunteer and leader for a variety of
church and homeschooling committees. In addition she sings with a group of
friends at church on Sundays. In her limited spare time, she loves to
read, paint, draw, and play the piano—all hobbies that she squeezes in
when she can. Between teaching the children, managing the household, and
working on a variety of projects on the house, a few minutes of time to
work on hobbies is hard to come by. She also loves to sew, quilt, and
crochet. She is a skilled seamstress who has made numerous quilts and many
outfits for the children over the years. Chandra had her own sewing
business at one point, giving it up to care for her children.
