Homeschooling: Take a Deep Breath—You Can Do This!
Nothing you ever do will be more important or have more
impact on the world than the time you spend parenting. Homeschooling is
parenting in its highest form, an extra measure of time, study, and love.
The time you give your children is time you could have spent earning
money, writing a best-seller or just taking a nap. All good parents make
sacrifices to raise children well. Homeschool parents make extra
sacrifices, because a private life is put on hold for an extra thirteen or
more years. Is it worth it?
Oh yeah! The little things I gave up were not as
important or as exciting as teaching my children to love books or debating
the age of the earth. They weren’t more fun than counting coins in United
Cerebral Palsy’s back office. They weren’t more fun than seeing a cougar
in the mountains. Not one of those things I gave up mattered more than
putting out the word that my kids came first. Naturally, my children won’t
completely appreciate any of that until they have children of their own,
but I appreciate it. No matter how my accomplishments are viewed by the
world or even by my teenagers, who are known to sometimes act like
teenagers, I am proud of what I did, more so because I was positive I
couldn’t do it. It was scary, it was hard, it made me cry, and it made me
become more than I ever dreamed I could be. Yeah…it was worth it.
